Pushing Pussy Records
Twinkle co-founded Pushing Pussy Records with Tinsel, Sparkle and Lindsay Lights.
Pushing Pussy Records was an independent girl-led label which did just what it says on the sleeve; promotes bands with female involvement and no beating around the bush, so to speak. In an industry predominantly run by men, this was a non-sexist venture to promote bands with at least one member who wore the heels!!!
In June 2007 PPR released their first vinyl release featuring The Fairies Band, City Lights, The Fatels and The Johnsons. Each band had their own style fusing punk, blues, pop and rock’n’roll resulting in an exciting EP showcasing some of the best unsigned acts of the moment. Following releases included The Palpitations and The Lovebirds with an in-store launch at Rough Trade on Brick Lane.
Pushing Pussy Records held a residency at Old Blue Last, each month presenting 3 of the finest female infused bands around, with a host of top ladies DJs to keep us boogying in between. Acts PPR championed in 2007 include Lovebirds, The Mentalists, Ciara Haidar, Betty & the Werewolves, Gin Palace and Dirty Backbeats. PPR also put on a storming all-dayer in aid of Oxjam at Vibe Bar on Brick Lane, raising a fair wad of dosh for a very worthy cause. The Vibe Bar on Brick Lane then hosted the PPR monthly residency in 2008 and the label took shows to Watford and Twickenham. Acts for 2008 include Kitty, Daisy and Lewis, the deBretts, Wet Dog and Monday Club.
Pushing Pussy Records was a united label; the bands all knew, supported and encouraged each other and above all had HUGE amounts of fun doing what we all loved!
